There are many festivals around the world which have a fancy dress theme. Some are more well-known than others and are inspired by movies, TV shows and celebrities that have a cult following. Here are some of the many festivals across the world where wearing fancy dress costumes are practically mandatory. Lebowski Fest The 12th annual Lebowski Fest takes place from the 19th to 20th July 2013 in Louisville, Kentucky. Celebrating the Coen Brothers film The Big Lebowski, those who attend are expected to wear costumes that are inspired by the movie. They could dress as the Dude, Walter or Donny. A group of friends could also go to Lebowski Fest as German Nihilists. White Russians, which is the Dude’s favourite drink, are served and there is unlimited bowling too – a sport which the Dude, Walter and Donny love doing in this movie which has a cult following. Tedfest The TV show Father Ted, which ran until 1998, is still very popular. The man of the cloth lived on Craggy Island with Dougal, Jack and Mrs Doyle and it is where Tedfest is held every February. Although it is a relatively new festival because it started in 2007, Tedfest is a hit among fans. Roswell UFO festival In 1947, an alien spaceship apparently crash landed in Roswell, New Mexico. It has inspired scores of conspiracy theories, such as a government cover up. The Roswell UFO Festival will take place from the 29th June to 1st July on the apparent crash site. Those who attend, and also their pets, are encouraged to dress as aliens. Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival The 2013 Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival takes place from the 17th to the 25th August. Victorian fancy dress costumes can be worn by those who attend. There are prizes for the best fancy dress costumes, such as by age. Victorian fancy dress costumes could be worn during the parade or whilst watching the many bandstand concerts which are held throughout this festival. Willowman Festival The Willowman Festival has a Steampunk theme in 2013. Although it is a music festival, everybody who attends is encouraged to dress in retro Victorian fancy dress costumes that have a twist. The festival, which is held at Hillside Rural Activities Park in North Yorkshire, has added many fantastic bands to its line-up already. The Eden Festival Taking place from 7th to 9th June, The Eden Festival is a popular music event. There is an unusual theme this year. This is because people are encouraged to wear diving suits, octopus legs and anything else which has a nautical theme. Although this is a general theme, there are mini-themes too. Mr Motivator, who found fame on TV in the 1980’s, will be revving the crowds up. Whilst getting in the party spirit, sweat bands and fluorescent clothing can be worn. Kendal Calling From the 26th to 28th July 2013 in Lowther Deer Park in the Lake District, Kendal Calling will have performances from scores of artists and bands who are from around the world. In 2013, there is a theme called ‘Kendal Calling Goes to the Movies’. This will match the overall theme of this year’s event. Those who attend are not regarded as festival goers but cast members. There will be a saloon bar, a haunted house and an area which Peter Pan and Wendy wouldn’t look out of place in. Author Bio This post was brought to you by Character Fancy Dress.
